![]() So that's a little too mature as a motivation. He explicitly blames Friday in a way that is a little too self-aware for his age. The Ian thing bothered me quite a lot, actually. But it held my engagement and was the right kind of fun. This one had a rough start and I kind of hated Ian through the entire thing (he was really mean and that's just not a good look, however young the boy). So that previous book is standing as an anomaly. It doesn't lean into the silly and never made me feel like I was wasting my time. So this one is better than the last, though I did figure out the core deception early like last time. ![]() You can probably read them in order, but you'd miss some of the nuance. ![]() This is fifth in a middle-grade series and some of the character developments are spread across the series. ![]()
